Study Tips/Advice at School/College

Going to college can be, all at once, enjoyable, educational and stressful. It is enjoyable because you are able to meet new people, forge new friendships and have fun engaging in various college activities. It's also very educational and lays down the ground for any career. And it's stressful because of the expectations students may have for themselves. Doing well in college is possible for any type of student, whether they're an A or a C student. All it takes is the ability to correctly study.

Study Well and Get Good Grades

In previous times, people thought that the ability to do good in school centered exclusively on a person's IQ and genetic make-up. As time has gone along, this has been shown to be untrue. People with low or high IQ's have done equally well in school.

So what's the secret to doing well in school? It's not who you are or who your parents are, it's your ability to study. To become a good student, you need knowledge. You can only acquire this knowledge by applying yourself to your studies.

The Fundamentals of Good Studying

OK, so now you see that studying well is the key to becoming a good student. But how exactly does that work? That's an excellent question, and the answer lies in the below study tips/advice at school.

Pay Attention in Class. Have you ever found yourself “zoning” out in class? It happens to pretty much every student at one point or another, and is something that is sure to lead to lower grades. The teacher is there for one reason: to teach you the subject at hand. They lecture on the subject and explain things far better than the book may be able to. That's why you need to pay very close attention to the teacher.

Take Notes. Since teachers give you a lot of invaluable information about the subject at hand, it's important to make notes of what they're saying. Thus, you should make sure to learn how to take notes. Good note takers are able to listen closely to what the teacher is saying and to make notes of the most important points.

A School Planner. You'll be juggling anywhere between 9-18 credit hours per semester in college. This can be overwhelming, but not if you have every detail about a class written down in a handy book known as a school planner. The main purpose of the school planner is to provide students with the opportunity to get and stay organized. Don't neglect to pick up a school organizer and be sure to learn the process of using your school diary—it's useless if you don't know how to use it.

Study Time. It can be easy to go out and enjoy a night on the town, but it is not a good idea if you need to write a paper or finish a math assignment. One of the best study tips that we can give you is to simply set aside some time each night or day to study. During this time you can write papers, review notes and complete assignments.

Summary: Becoming a good student isn't all about brains. It's also about being able to study correctly. By following these tips, you'll learn how to effectively study.
